Smith’s Sharpening Rods & Stones Review

cooks-denCooksDen is an awesome blog that covers all types of cooking tools and chefs gear- from bakeware to small appliances- they do a great job providing expert reviews on everything a Chef could need. That being said, we were very excited to have our diamond combination sharpening stone, 9″ oval ceramic sharpening rod, and 10″ diamond sharpening rod featured in their latest posts!

Not only did they provide a positive review of our products, they went the extra mile and provided some great tips on what to look for when purchasing a rod or stone. Ken wrote:

…if you’ve got a decent set of kitchen knives, you’ll want to keep them in good shape by frequently using a steel on them, and periodically sharpening them. Steeling realigns your edges after everyday use, while sharpening removes a bit of metal and exposes a thinner, sharper edge.

Properly maintaining your edges can keep them in good shape, dramatically reducing the time between sharpenings. For that reason alone, it makes sense to get a decent steeling rod to go with your decent set of knives.

So what makes a decent steeling rod? For one thing, it should be smooth and not grooved like the rods that come with many inexpensive knife sets. For another, it should be long enough to handle your longest knife. And finally, it should provide a secure grip with a decent guard so that you don’t nick your fingers…. (read full post)
